Project Details
Using figure drawings and illustrations as the initial input and inspiration, we translate the human forms, posture, and movement into the grain, texture, and materiality of the tile. The original drawings, done by the artist Mark Michelon, evoke a sense of abstract motion.
The figure tiles celebrate the beauty and heritage of the human form as well as MMR’s commitment to blending craft and contemporary technologies.

The Mutant Stone project uses generative AI to guide and transform imagery into fabrication ready ceramic tile designs.
Mutant Stone bridges the digital and physical realms, working across different graphical information and scales. The project explores tile's material and graphical possibilities, experimenting with figure drawing, botanical scenes, cityscapes, and more abstracted mutant stone motifs. Focusing on technology paired with materiality and craft, it offers a fresh look at the process of design.
