Location: Logrono, Spain
Design Year: 2023
Client: Concentrico 9
Materials: plywood, wine stain

The pavilion creates an intimate urban meeting place in the Plaza de Escuelas Trevijano, framed by three dynamically postured columns. While static, the figures of the columns create the energy and dynamism of traditional festivals from the La Rioja region. The postures and forms of dancers from Logrono are abstracted into panelized forms suitable for plywood fabrication, leaning inwards embracing visitors as they socialize on the seating surfaces. A branching canopy extends like the outstretched arms of dancers from each column to create dappled shade and a more domestically scaled space within the larger plaza.

The forms of the column are further articulated with inlaid hatching exposing the internal stresses of the columns’ athletic posture. Visually, these inlays create a chiaroscuro effect, further increasing the dynamism of the forms through shading. These inlays create shelves and pockets within the columns allowing festival guests to leave behind remnants of their experience. The pavilion becomes both the framing of the event as well as its archive.
